Advanced Dog Training in Houston

Your dog has the basics. Now you want more — off-leash hikes, calm behavior at a brewery patio, a reliable recall from across a park full of dogs. Advanced Training is the program that gets you from capable to polished.

  • Group walk and multi-dog manners
  • Impulse control around food, prey, and other dogs
  • Owner handling skills for high-distraction environments

What does off-leash reliability actually mean?

Off-leash reliable means your dog will recall from a running deer, settle at your feet without a tether, and ignore the dog across the park because you are more interesting than the environment.

Getting there requires honest work. We proof skills in increasing-distraction environments, build long-line foundations before dropping the leash, and never fake it in a situation your dog is not ready for. A real recall is earned, not hoped for.

Why do owners stall out before off-leash?

Most dogs plateau at the leash-walking stage because the owner never systematically builds distance and distraction tolerance. They go from 6-foot leash straight to no leash and get bitten by reality.

Advanced Training structures the progression: 15-foot line, 30-foot line, decoy dogs, controlled off-leash sessions in enclosed spaces, then real-world. Each step is earned.

Frequently asked questions

Does my dog need basic obedience before advanced training?
Yes. Advanced work builds on sit, down, place, and a reliable recall. If your dog does not have those on leash in moderate distraction, we start with Basic Obedience first.
Can every dog become off-leash reliable?
Most can, but not all. High-prey-drive breeds, dog-reactive dogs, and some sight hounds have genetic drives that make true off-leash a liability. We are honest when a dog is not a good off-leash candidate and build a different plan.
How long does advanced training take?
Typically eight to twelve sessions, spaced across a few months, with homework between every session. Rushing it defeats the purpose.
